MultiTerm Online allows you to specify search settings used for multiple termbase searches. You can specify the search type and the languages. The different options provide you with a different way of conducting the search and displaying results.
To specify the type of multiple termbase search you want to conduct:
Go to the Settings page in the Terms view. To access this page, click the Search and browse settings icon on the Search and Display toolbar in the Terms view.
Select one of the following two options from the Multiple Termbase Search Options box:
Hierarchical - Search termbases hierarchically until at least one matching term is found – Searches each termbase separately and in turn, until at least one matching term is found or until the hit list is full. If there are no search results for a given termbase, the search automatically continues in the next termbase, as defined by the termbase search order. The search stops as soon as the first set of results is found; within each set of results, matching terms are listed alphabetically under the termbase name. To resume the search and display the next set of results, click the Continue search for next set of entries button, located above the hit list pane on the left-hand side.
Sequential - Search all open termbases sequentially and group results by termbase – Searches all termbases sequentially, according to the termbase search order. In the hit list, the matching terms from each termbase are grouped together in alphabetical order under the termbase name.
Click OK to save the settings.
The languages that you specify for the default termbase in the Terms view are known as the default source and target languages. In the context of a multiple termbase search, you can use the default source and target languages to identify the relevant search languages in other termbases. Alternatively, you can use the Manual Language Selection page to specify termbase language settings manually.
To specify a termbase language:
Go to the Settings page in the Terms view. To access this page, click the Search and browse settings icon on the Search and Display toolbar in the Terms view.
Select one of the following two options from the Multiple Termbase Search Options box.
Identify related languages where the default source and target languages are not available – Select this option if you want MultiTerm Online to use the default source and target languages as defined in the Terms view to identify the relevant search languages for other termbases in the current group. See The Related Language Rule for more information.
If the default source language is not available in a given termbase, MultiTerm Online uses the related language rule to identify an alternative search language. If there is no suitable alternative, the termbase is excluded from the search.
Likewise, if the default target language is not available in a given termbase, MultiTerm Online uses the related language rule to identify a suitable alternative. If there is no suitable alternative, MultiTerm Online uses the most recently-used target language for the purposes of the search operation.
Identify Languages Manually – Select this option if you want to specify source and target languages for each termbase in the group manually. To do this:
Click Set to go to the Manual Language Selection page.
In the Languages Selected per Termbase box, use the drop-down lists to specify Source and Target languages for each termbase in the current group.
Click OK to return to the Settings page.
Click OK to save your settings. MultiTerm Online applies the specified language settings to your next termbase search.
NOTE |
The language settings you specify on the Manual Language Selection page will, if necessary, override the current language settings for the default termbase when browsing. |
