Importing Terms

MultiTerm Online allows you to import terms into your termbase from other termbases or other termbase applications. In order to perform an import, the files must be in MultiTerm XML format and zipped to keep the upload time to a minimum. For security reasons, the maximum size of your upload may be restricted.  Contact your MultiTerm administrator for details.

NOTE

If your files are not in MultiTerm XML format, you can use SDL MultiTerm Convert to convert files from the following formats:  SDL MultiTerm 5, OLIF (Open Lexicon Interchange Format), SDL Termbase Desktop, SDL Termbase Online, a spreadsheet format, database exchange format and Microsoft Excel (XLS files.  For more information, see the SDL MultiTerm help.

To import terms:

  1. Go to the Import page in the Termbase Management view.

  2. Select the termbase that you want to import the terms into from the Select Termbase drop-down list. The termbase must be open in MultiTerm Online.

  3. Select the import definition to use for the import from the Import Definitions box. The import definition must already exist prior to performing the import. If no import definition is available, contact your MultiTerm administrator.

  4. Complete the Import Settings box:

  5. Click Browse to select the MultiTerm XML files in zipped format that you want to import.  These files must be in MultiTerm XML format.

  6. Fast import (import file is fully compliant with MultiTerm XML) - Select this option if the zipped MultiTerm XML files have the same termbase definition as the termbase you are importing into.  This means that the data matches exactly.

  7. Apply Filter - Select this option and a filter from the drop-down list if you want to limit the terms imported from your XML files.

  1. Click OK to start the import. The Processing Jobs page is displayed. This page indicates the current status of the import. During the import process the status, Receiving, is displayed and the percentage of the files that are currently uploaded is displayed. This page is refreshed every ten seconds. You can cancel the import at any time by clicking Abort.

When the import process is complete, the status changes to Complete and a log file is accessible from the Download File link that is displayed. The new terms are extracted from the zipped XML files and incorporated into the selected termbase.

NOTE

Once the import process has started and the file is uploaded to the server, the process will continue even if you log out of MultiTerm Online or if you are disconnected. You can log back in and view the status of an import on the Import page of the Termbase Management view, which indicates if the process is complete, still processing or if there are any errors. You can also can also access the log file from this page by clicking Download File in the Operations column on the Job Processes table.
