Editing Duplicate or Inconsistent Entries

You can edit duplicate or inconsistent entries directly from the search results view provided that you have the appropriate termbase access rights. Access rights are defined by your MultiTerm administrator and they may vary from one termbase to the next.

Before you begin editing a duplicate or inconsistent entry check that you have sufficient access rights to carry out the required editing tasks. Note the following:

To edit a duplicate or inconsistent entry:

  1. In the entry window that is displayed when you click on the entry ID number, click Edit entry.

NOTE

Do not open more than one editing window at a time, or the entry will be locked and it will not be possible to edit the entry.

  1. Click the field name or use the arrow keys on your keyboard to move between fields in the entry pane.

  2. Select the name of the field you want to edit. You can also select the field name and press [ENTER] to make a field editable. Make changes to the text. Press [ESC] to close the edited field without saving the changes. Click the field name or press [ENTER] to save the changes and close the field when you have finished.

  3. As the same term already exists in another entry, when you close the field, SDL MultiTerm Online asks you if you want to merge the two entries.

To continue editing and thus create a second instance of the term in a homonym entry, click Cancel.

To merge the two entries, click OK. The existing entry, also known as the master entry, is displayed in edit mode. The fields that previously belonged to the newer entry are now merged into the existing entry. Finish editing and then save the master entry. Delete the entry whose content has been merged into the master entry.

  1. To delete a field from the entry, select the field label and press Delete. Alternatively, you can delete the field by simply deleting its contents.

  2. When you have finished editing, click Save entry to exit edit mode. The entry is saved to the termbase.

  3. To exit the entry editor without saving the entry, click Cancel entry editing.

NOTE

  • The input model and layout you are using while in edit mode affect the range of termbase fields that are available to you and visible in the entry pane. Contact your MultiTerm administrator for more information about the input models and layouts that are available to you.

  • If a field is marked as multiple in the termbase definition, then it can be added several times at the same level in a single entry. For example, many entries contain several terms in the same language because the language field is marked as multiple in the termbase definition. Picklist fields do not allow you to add multiple instances under the same level; however, if they are marked as multiple you can select more than one option from the picklist in that field.
